This year, 22 March marks the 32nd World Water Day. From March 22 to March 28, the 37th China Water Week was held, with the theme of making good use of water resources and managing water resources strictly.

With profound academic accumulation and rich practical experience, the Water Conservation Management Research Center of Hohai University has carefully planned and completed the county-wide water-saving system planning project in close combination with the actual situation of Helan County, and has achieved remarkable results.
The research center team gave full play to its professional advantages in the field of water resources management and formulated a comprehensive and accurate water-saving strategy according to the current situation of water resources in Helan County. With the core goal of improving the efficiency of water resources utilization in various industries, they have solved the problem of water waste from the source. Through in-depth analysis and scientific adjustment of the industrial structure, we have actively promoted the transformation of high-water-consuming industries to low-water-consuming or water-saving industries, and realized the organic integration of industrial upgrading and water resource protection.
At the same time, the team uses economic means to regulate the allocation of water resources, establishes a water price mechanism that pays equal attention to incentives and constraints, and promotes all water users to enhance their awareness of water conservation, forming a good trend of cherishing water resources in the whole society. In addition, they also actively introduce international leading irrigation technologies and vigorously promote efficient water-saving irrigation models, such as drip irrigation and sprinkler irrigation, which effectively reduce the loss of water resources in the process of farmland irrigation and greatly improve the efficiency of agricultural water resource utilization.

Xiji County in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, located in the hinterland of the Loess Plateau, has low average annual precipitation and has been in a state of serious water shortage for a long time, and has been assessed by relevant United Nations agencies as one of the areas unsuitable for human habitation. Under the national targeted poverty alleviation work, although Xiji County has achieved poverty alleviation, water shortage is still an important constraint restricting the long-term development of the local economy and society and the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy.
As one of the last counties in the country to alleviate poverty in an all-round way, the bottleneck of Xiji County's development is the problem of water resources, and solving this problem is of far-reaching significance for the promotion of the county's and even the country's rural revitalization strategy. In order to meet this challenge, the Xiji County Government has joined hands with the Water Conservation Management Research Center of Hohai University, and Professor Zhou Haiwei's team is actively participating in its global water conservation system planning project.
